“Small Buildings and Energy Savings”
In a recent Building Operating Management article, small and medium-sized buildings overlooked energy savings opportunities. According to Robert Carver of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, “It’s important to get good IAQ, but to do so in way that’s energy efficient”.
The first step is to identify these energy savings opportunities by getting a benchmark/baseline of current operations. The keys areas are temperature and humidity control, efficiency of equipment, and ventilation control.

According to the February issue of the journal Buildings, there are eleven surprising areas your building wastes energy. They are:
1-Leaving electronics and appliances turned on
2-Dirty filters
3-Dripping faucets
4-Unnecessary vending machine cooling and lighting

7-Not optimizing equipment start-up time and sequencing

Green Building Market Increase in Popularity
The publication, Building Design and Construction reported that the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego reports growing popularity of energy-efficient “Green Buildings” and reveals that tenants have been willing to pay more for office space in environmental friendly buildings.
